reading more about atomic gardening and this is so much fun. to read about that is. it also seems fun to do, but. you know. anyway:

"The story of these citizen-pioneers of mutagenesis (the technical term for creating genetic change through the application of chemical, physical, and biological agents) is full of fantastic details, from Muriel Howorth’s propagandising ballet-mime, Isotopia, which involved a cast of Knowledge, Electron, Proton, Neutron, Rat, and Cow, as well as a working geiger counter, to Tennessee-based atomic entrepreneur C.J. Speas irradiating trays of seedlings into his backyard bunker.

Perhaps the most bizarre detail in the interview, however, is the news that these gamma gardens are still in operation, relatively unchanged in design since the 50s, in the grounds of national laboratories today. Their circular form, which, as Johnson notes, bears more than a passing resemblance to the atomic danger symbol, “was simply based upon the need to arrange the plants in concentric circles around the radiation source which stood like a totem in the center of the field.”

It was basically a slug of radioactive material within a pole; when workers needed to enter the field it was lowered below ground into a lead lined chamber. There were a series of fences and alarms to keep people from entering the field when the source was above ground. The amount of radiation received by the plants naturally varied according to how close they were to the pole. So usually a single variety would be arranged as a ‘wedge’ leading away from the pole, so that the effects of a range of radiation levels could be evaluated. Most of the plants close to the pole simply died. A little further away, they would be so genetically altered that they were riddled with tumors and other growth abnormalities. It was generally the rows where the plants ‘looked’ normal, but still had genetic alterations, that were of the most interest, that were ‘just right’ as far as mutation breeding was concerned!

Over at GOOD, Peter Smith recently described a similar layout at the still-active Institute of Radiation Breeding, in Hitachiohmiya, Japan, which has “has a 88.8 Terabecquerel Cobalt-60 source, ringed by a 3,608-foot radius Gamma field (the world’s largest), and a 28-foot high shield dike around the perimeter.”

As it turns out, far from being a fantastic fossil from the future that never was, along with jetpacks and flying cars, atomic gardening is alive and well today. According to a 2007 New York Times story, which quotes Dr. Pierre Lagoda, head of plant breeding and genetics at the International Atomic Energy Agency, radiation breeding is actually experiencing a renaissance, due to the introduction of “new methods that speed up the identification of mutants.”

What’s more, the Times adds, nearly 2,000 gamma radiation-induced mutant crop varieties have been registered around the world, including Calrose 76, a dwarf varietal that accounts for about half the rice grown in California, and the popular Star Ruby and Rio Red grapefruits, whose deep colour is a mutation produced through radiation breeding in the 1970s. Similarly, Johnson tells Pruned that “most of the global production of mint oil,” with an annual market value estimated at $930 million, is extracted from the “wilt-resistant ‘Todd’s Mitcham’ cultivar, a product of thermal neutron irradiation.” She adds that “the exact nature of the genetic changes that cause it to be wilt-resistant remain unknown.”

The Vex, the Black Garden, and Mercury's Conversion. (Alt Title: I am going insane)

There's always something going on with the Vex in the background and I can't believe I didn't pay closer attention to it when these weird single-celled organisms have always been right up my alley right there beside Osiris.

Anyways. What's been on my mind lately is Brass Gardeners from the Inspiral lorebook (dropped from Root of Nightmares.) I was so caught up in the interesting implications and continuation of Unveiling that it completely flew under the radar for me.

Now what I want to focus on is these key aspects from this lore entry:

Garden state: neutral garden&&gardeners==root&&branch==leaf&&flower //intrinsic, inextricable, inescapable

And

anomaly One = leaf|invasive; Garden state: active (gardeners attend)

And

anomaly Zero = infinite|witness; archive data retrieved. Zero = infinite|witness == (a seed was planted here.) Recorded referent: "Black|Heart" Zero : seed :: One : DANGER [SIMULATION BREAKING. VISIBILITY NARROW. FRACTALS DISINTEGRATING.] anomaly Zero, absent. anomaly One, DANGER remaining. Garden state: acting (gardeners in unison)

And

//There is a majestic thorn. The anomaly is gone. The garden is peaceful. //It is known|seen|predicted that a primary function of irresolvable|irrecoverable presences is to trample. Flowers growing / damage repairing / threat unresolved Function called: escalation. Iteration. Function: winnow. Function: simplify. Function: flatten. //The first defense is offense.

Now I'm no expert at coding. But I know a little bit about logic algorithms, especially ones that are presented here. (This is an if-then type of algorithm. These kinds of logic equations are also used in Philosophy which I know much more about.)

The gist of this entry is that, from what I can glean, the Traveler visited the Vex once, and while the Vex considered it invasive they were not actively hostile. An indeterminate amount of time passed, presumably up until the Collapse (our time), and the Witness visited the Garden these Vex have created. (It very well could be that the Black Garden was not the Black Garden until the introduction of the Witness.) It left them a "seed" (or... a code...) that would become the Black Heart.

Or, as we now know, a failed attempt at recreating the Veil.

After this introduction is when the Vex became actively hostile. They did not stay gardeners, the Sol Divisive became winnowers only when the Witness introduced the concept. Which is an incredibly fascinating implication.

So what does this mean?

Well I have a couple theories. Remember this is just speculation, it's not canon.

So we know the Vex have been in our system for... a while. Ever since the Ishtar Collective and Clovis Bray decided to be stupid about them. But this idea of total conversion didn't seem to be the end-all state. I mean the Ishtar Academy was still intact despite some Vex conversion. It doesn't seem like Europa's conversion went very far either.

So why did they go into a frenzy with Mercury during the Collapse? Why did the Vex make Mercury their simulation engine for a Vex end-state? If they wanted to they could've made any of the thousands of planets they inhabit into a simulation engine to the degree of Mercury's but there's no evidence they did. Why target Io? Or Nessus? Why only planets the Light has touched?

Well... The answer is a little complicated. We don't know, really, how the Vex began to terraform Nessus and Io, but we do know how they got to Mercury.

So, let's remember this line:

anomaly One = leaf|invasive; Garden state: active (gardeners attend)

Now, let's look at how the Vex were introduced to Mercury in Trials and Tribulations (for the sake of clarity I will be cutting out the Witness lines save for one vital line):

It was a garden world. The phrase, uttered in confidence. The expanse above, a cup—rimmed in gamma-ink radiance—dammed against the Mercurian sky at the Kármán line. Against the howl of star-wind, the black fell open. Within the rip convulsed and excreted coils of shimmering life. Probing, clattering tendrils slithered down to make landfall. Chrome-hooked appendages stretched for miles through sun-soaked atmosphere. They bored into the marigold sands. From the great temporal chasms flowed an ocean of radiolarian fluid. Across the horizon the scene was resonant and multiplicative. Each injection site fostered a new lineage in stone and steel and fluid. The new age in sub-routine and observation. They would foster the seeds of a generation in time. From the sites bubbled pools that murmured chaotic, and wrung the Traveler's Light from Mercury. The Light coalesced within the pools. The planet transformed into a machine of prediction. The arms retracted, and returned to temporal hovels, suspended just above Mercury's influence. With them rose the spires. From the core, threads of iron fused reinforcement into the spires and brought them high. A surface driven flat by eons of solar erosion had risen. A million open mouths curled plated tongues in completion. Across the world grew a terrible consciousness that yearned to find its progenitor. The hulking vessels pulsed with light. The pools and spires pulsed dull tones in recognition, and the black sealed once more, restoring the sol-dominated sky |awaiting an angular shadow|. Illumination left the spires, and the Light was erased.

Okay, this one is a big one and might be a little difficult to grasp, but the gist of it is that a portal ("the black") opened and implanted the first Vex seeds into Mercury all while draining the Light. This portal was created by a Pyramid. This happened during the collapse.

The Vex were artificially implanted onto Mercury by the Witness for the purpose of creating a prediction engine. And not only that but they were meant to wait for the Witness's return.

Which they responded to in the last chapter of Trials and Tribulations:

Vance stood in the old Lighthouse, frantically assembling the Infinite Simulacrum: a machine formed from bits of simulation seeds and connective Vex architecture to mimic a pocket forest. Textured notes and schematics derived from Osirian lore guided his hand. He heard stories from passing Guardians of increasingly frequent coronal mass ejections. Vast bursts of charged particles whipped into space and furled around a gravitational monster buried from sight and sense in the roar of the star-wind. Passage to Mercury had become more dangerous for the uninitiated. These unnatural motions were heralds of speculation, and he had read the signs. He knew the prophecies by heart and mind and intention. Ruin. Something new |and so very old| emerged, brother to a shriveling star: An angular |hungering patient yawning deep| shadow reached across Mercury. Uncounted |known| spires fell under its grasp |with uniform relief|. Dulcet tones brought low under lightless breadth and the weight of dark |salvation| hummed beneath the shadow. Their echoes spilled out |awakened| and flowed over crumbling spires |in conversation|. One singular spec of illumination blinked into being, |an end| seen by none, and then |many| spread as the shadow did. The old Lighthouse |spire's collective| beamed |rose| and flared as shadow overtook it |to meet the underbelly|. Vance |the implement| could hear |their inspired voices| weeping, not with tears, but in the |voracious| low |ceremonial| hum he had come to associate with death. He closed his eyes |and saw what was to come|. This day had many names. None would suffice.

We know now that memory and consciousness is linked to the darkness, and in turn links to simulations. Is that why they made a prediction engine? Were the Vex on Mercury meant to help the Witness expedite the path to the final shape? Were they left in limbo because of Savathun's betrayal? Osiris saw what the Witness's final shape would result in within the Infinite Forest, was this the end goal the Vex were meant to look for? Was the Witness using the Vex as herbicides on Mercury,

I don't know what's going on with the Vex or the Black Garden or Mercury and its implications are driving me fucking insane. I don't even know what I'm getting at here anymore I just need you to understand that there is Something Here and I Can't Fucking Touch It. I started off trying to find meaning behind the change in the Vex if they changed at all but the rabbit hole just kept getting deeper.

Do the vex not understand Paracausality because the Traveler and the Veil were once one? I mean I made up this whole apple metaphor about how if you knew everything about an apple but then suddenly the apple was split into two separate things and the apple simply did not even exist as a concept anymore wouldn't you be just as confused? Also they say the Vex need to Veil in order to finally understand Paracausality. Is that why they don't? Because they only knew the two when they were one?

Does anyone hear me. What the fuck is happening. What's going on. What is the purpose of the Lighthouses. Why did the Witness plant the Vex there. Why did the Witness call Calus specifically to the Mercury anomaly. What's so important about Vance and the Tones for Osiris's memories of them to have possibly been removed!? (ANOTHER POST TO BE MADE.) Why was Sister Faora mentioned? WHAT DOES IT MEAN. I'm losing my train of thought there's just So Much Here.

I wanted to let you know that Odo has left for the Gamma Quadrant to be with the Founders, and, we all hope, to set them on a better path for the future. I’m sorry to say that we don’t think he’s coming back, or not for a very long time. 

I thought you should know, as under Bajoran law, at least, this makes you legally a widow. In Bajoran tradition, this news is usually accompanied by a fruit basket. Apparently on Earth they send flowers, and the Ferengi send latinum. I don’t know what they do on Betazed, but as Bajoran milaberries are good this year, I thought you might like the fruit basket even if it isn’t your tradition.

However, the traditional gift from a mature woman to a prospective young swain is an item of clothing, and I happened to come across this dress that I think would look simply darling on you. I just had to buy it. I won’t be offended if you don’t like it.

I hope now that the war is over, you have more opportunities to enjoy yourself. The Cardassians took so much from you, my dear, I hope you live life to the fullest now you’re free to do so. 

Betazed, like Bajor, is a beautiful green planet, full of gardens. I think you would like it here. The lilacs arrived in perfect bloom, so I have taken the chance to send you a muktok plant. The flowers are lovely, but their real beauty is if you shake them gently.

I would love to visit Betazed some day. If everyone there is as kind as you, then it must be a wonderful place. The station is very quiet these days. I’m sure I could get away for a vacation without anyone minding too much, even as the Commander. 

Or perhaps you’d like to come to Bajor? I’ve enclosed a painting of one of my favourite places. It’s of a waterfall on one of the tributaries of the Holana River, and this artist captures exactly how peaceful it feels to be there.

Oh yeah!! I had forgotten to mention! I had decided to turn the little sonic creatures into a AU! My friend beans kept telling me ideas and they were getting into me..

It wasnt supposed to be a AU but, welp, now it is!

So a have a lil bit about this silly AU! I havent thought of a name yet:

- They all live in a neighborhood with other humans! But there is a house that is a little more isolated and nearby the forest

- In there lives the Scientist and Inventor, Dr.Gerald Robotnik with his granddaughter Maria Robotnik and assistant robots Omega and Gamma!

- As always, Shadow lives with Gerald and Maria but he isnt alone, rouge and silver also lives with them!

- Gerald's house is quite big and have a big garden with a greenhouse and a small cabin for his granddaughter to go play, there is also a small flower garden by Maria's request so she can take care of them

- Sonic, silver, shadow, knuckles, any of the characters that we know of for having powers still maintain them but on a minimum, for exemple silver have difficulties controlling his powers so Gerald helps him, Shadow mostly just have his teleportation [chaos control but it doesnt require a emerald]

- Everyone else lives on the forest! Sometimes visiting the Robotniks to hang out and play with Maria

- The silly creatures have their own language that humans can't understand, tho they can at least understand humans, shadow, rouge and silver know both languages so they translate wat the others says

- I haven't thought yet if Eggman will be included on this AU, i want it to be just a silly and calm AU so currently i dont have any plans about him

- Yes the idw characters r also in this AU! But they live in another close by neighborhood! i havent draw them yet but i will soon enough :>

- They r all close to their canon heights!! But smaller and each have their own height! I just draw them small for drawing purposes

More lore for this menace, and the Claymates as well...

In his human life, Mael was born a free man of color, but poverty forced him into criminal activities. At a relatively young age he was sentenced to death row, but was imprisoned for decades. Marie Laveau visited him in prison, as she did with many death row inmates, and secretly taught him Voodoo, as she Saw something in him. Ultimately they performed a ritual to make him a "horse," to call a spirit into him, with the intention of said spirit taking his soul so he wouldn't have to live in prison anymore, nor be killed by the state. So he could leave this life on his terms and reclaim his freedom.

As a Ghoul he's got swagger like Remy LeBeau (Gambit, X-Men). He creates gris-gris, good luck charms and amulets, for all his packmates. Snakes are significant to his practice, which is part of why he feels comfortable ragging on Ifrit so much. He gets into a triad situation with the Claymates (Chain and Ivy), asking Chain one day, "Chere, someday may I water your lil sprout?" (whilst staring lasciviously and licking his lips). He's a Mean Dom and a sexual sadist, and like other Water/Water-hybrid Ghouls, he's very weird (sexy) about blood. The three of them enjoy their unique aftercare, drinking tea and playing chess or card games. He develops a genuine friendship with Ivy, helping to tend his poison garden, harvesting things he needs for his various spells and rituals. He also enlists the Earth Ghouls' help generally, for the occasional sacrificial chicken.

With Chain, though, he allows Chain's soft Dom self to break him down and expose his vulnerability. During the course of their interactions, they discover that Mael was Chain's one true love, and they decide to officially mate. This throws Ivy for an emotional loop; despite being aro, Ivy's relationship with Chain was something very special and meaningful to him, and he suddenly feels like a placeholder, just someone to fill Chain's time while he waited for his true companion.

I had just turned eleven years old when I experienced loss for the first time.

Not loss like when daddy made me set my pet garden snail, Lettuce, free. Not loss like when I’d got the final answer wrong in the state school quiz and sent our team home. Not even loss like when mummy said that grandfather wasn’t going to come back.

Because I’d had Annie through everything up until then, and nothing could truly feel like a loss with her.

As the forced co-parent of Lettuce, despite finding snails disgusting and babyish (I being over a year her junior) she had told me that once I would reach seven years of age, it wouldn’t matter because nobody that old plays with bugs, and took me by the hand, leading me from the soil, from the critters that I’d long to befriend in hopes of replacing my gastropod pet.

When I’d misnamed the Archduke who had been assassinated, triggering the First World War and the entire audience groaned while my chest collapsed under the guilt, like that was supposed to be common knowledge for an eight-year-old, I snatched my self-proclaimed lucky mascot, a black hair scrunchie, attempting to dignify the humiliation as I made my way backstage, looking for my Annie. She had told me that nobody cared about 'shitty archdukes' in the grown-up world, and as I gasped, eyes scanning for adults who might have heard her use of forbidden language, she swapped my black scrunchie with one of her own, the colour of cotton candy, and told me that she suited the black, unlucky scrunchie.

When mummy had told me that grandfather wasn’t making it out of the hospital, I did not cry; I had only met him twice in my lifetime; once when he came to visit on my seventh birthday, once when we had flown out to his hometown. I had boasted that I could recite the Greek alphabet, a somewhat useless skill I had picked up from a book, and I ended up with a note of money in my hand faster than I could chant 'Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon' and so forth. Mummy told me that I was the daughter he had always wanted; motivated and bright, with a true love of books. Even at ten years old, it was nice to be appreciated. When I had asked Annie to meet me in our secret hovel in the park, I told her about these two encounters, along with the small black hole growing inside of me in the wake of losing grandfather; not taking notice of her alabaster fingers weaving trodden croci into a crown. Annie told me that he was not the only one who appreciated me. She, ever the bashful one, only implied that it was also her who appreciated me; nonetheless, I attempted to coax the verbal affirmation from her.

If only I had heard her say that she appreciated me before I turned eleven, and I was hit with another loss.

Only this time there was no Annie to turn to; Annie was my loss.

Devil Dinosaur

Found in the savage land, Rick and Red are technically his parents since Devil imprinted on them the hardest. The beloved boy of the team and spoiled rotten by everyone, whether that's being given extra treats by Jen or two hour belly rubs by Skaar. It's hard taking care of a t-rex but the team manages.

Icarus

Samuel's pet rat from his human days, she has her own cage and generally can be found trailing after him and holding onto items he has misplaced. Fuckin HUGE since she's absorbed some gamma radiation so....more of a raccoon looking rat?? An opossum?? She's Samuel's little girl and yes, he IS sharing a carrot with Icarus, what of it????

Angel

A Doue de Bordeaux, Angel was the first dog and dropped off by Lyra when she gave one of her surprise visits and didn't wait for Hulk to explain that they couldn't take a dog. Angel gets sick easily but she's become beloved by everyone and can usually be found napping near Hulk's bed since it is the quietest spot. A fancy lady who likes her food cooked, slow walks and is generally very hygienic to Samuel's relief.

Juno

A Borzoi, Samuel found her hiding in one of his abandoned lairs and you know what?? They already have a dog, one more can't hurt. She's opens doors and containers and Red can't stop laughing because she figured out something faster than Skaar. Energetic but she mostly just runs around rapidly before conking out for a few hours and does it all over again. Beloved by Samuel because he has a weakness for gangly animals. Has an awful habit of running on you when you're asleep.

Molly

A Rottweiler, Hulk found her chained in a garden and....well you can guess what he did next. No one was happy for a third and fifth pet but Hulk was set on keeping her, especially with how skittish she was. Molly is slow to trust but will often plop down on top of anyone and pass out for some time. She hates going outside and finds more comfort in sitting in "The panic box" aka the big ass box Hulk puts in his closet for her to hide in when she gets upset.

Sergeant Pepper

A German Shepherd, Red found him eating out of the rubbish and went "yeah you're mine". Sgt Pepper bites a lot but that doesn't really matter to any of the hulks and Red's trained him well enough around people. He has a awful habit of tackling other dogs and the team when food is being made and this has caused some issues with Molly at times. Gets carried like a baby by Red and he refuses to admit that he does it.

Boots

A Bulldog, Skaar adored him and demanded that they had another doggie to give a home too and....well, everyone gave in. Boots runs when people come to him but will Chase and go after people if he wants affection. Boots is the only one allowed in Molly's box and will often be found curled up around Angel for a nap. Skaar likes to sit and talk out his problems or feelings with Boots and always finds comfort in the dogs grunts.

Peanut Butter

A French Bulldog, picked up by Rick alongside his husband, Waffles, after there was a pet sale in the town they had saved and Rick had resumed that two small dogs would make up for the big dogs....he did not know that two smaller dogs actually meant one big dog. But it's fine, PB is a dope who spends most of his time bringing items to Waffles and has to be carried after he's decided he's done walking. Rick adores him tho because he starts to dance when music plays.

Waffles Butter

A pomeranian! Peanut Butter's husband! The matching set that makes up a demon of a dog and likes to be taken on trips to town and cities. He's a fancy man who knows what he wants, likes to wear sweaters and takes great pride in a clean coat and for some reason, is set on barking and keeping things away from Devil. Jen thinks Waffles and Peanut have adopted a dinosaur as their son and excuse her, she needs to perish over this.

The Cats

Jen found a stray cat, named it Primrose (Rosie for short) and let it wander about until she found out she gave birth. Primrose only eats tuna and no one can figure out how she keeps getting in her base. Her kittens include three boys and two girls who eveyone named; Tiger, Elf, Bisuit, Ophelia (Opal) and Kiwi.

Betty's flock

Aka just a small bunch of parakeets that follow Betty around when she flies and now she is stuck with multiple tiny children preening her and sitting on her, which everyone but her, finds incredibly amusing. They are all named Betty Jr.

Avengers:Endgame References/Easter Eggs/Connections SPOILERS!

I knew there had to be at least one connection to each MCU film so I decided to write down what I saw. Some might be very vague or be reaching a bit, but there are some solid ones I think. SPOILERS OF COURSE! I’ve included lines, cameos I thought were significant, shot parallels, etc. Plus some extra stuff at the bottom that deal with comic, actor/write cameos, etc. Enjoy! Please let me know if there is anything wrong or missing! It’s a long post. I’ll put it under a cut if someone wants me to. I tagged everything I could think of.

Iron Man 

 “I am Iron Man”

The sound at the end of the credits is of Tony making his first Iron Man Suit.

Morgan wanting Cheeseburgers and Happy’s response references how Tony wanted an “American Cheeseburger” after he was kidnapped and rescued.

Tony walking out of The Benatar is similar to him walking off the plane after he gets rescued.

”Don’t post this on social media”

”I just want peace” Tony does a peace sign like the soldier at the beginning of Iron Man.

Tony leaves a message for Morgan like his father, Howard did for him.

The “Proof That Tony Stark Has A Heart” Arc reactor display that Pepper made for Tony with the first small arc reactor he made to keep shrapnel out of his heart, is sent off on the lake during his funeral

The Incredible Hulk 

 When Steve asks Hulk how he knows he would survive using all the infinity stones he says, “We don’t. But the radiation is mostly Gamma. It’s like I was made for this”.

Iron Man 2 

“It’s always you” was the line Tony said to Pepper when making her CEO of Stark Industries

Thor 

Erik Selvig shows up among the dusted.

New Asgard is in Tønsberg, Norway, which is where Odin led the war against the Frost Giants.

Captain America: The First Avenger 

Steve and Peggy’s dance that they he promised her before going into the ice is finally fulfilled.

The compass with Peggy’s picture Steve has is the same from TFA.

“I can do this all day”

“Don’t do anything stupid?” “How can I? You’re taking all the stupid with you”

”I went in the ice in ‘45 right after I met the love of my life. Woke up 70 years later.”

After their plan to get the tesseract from New York failed, they went to Camp Lehigh which is where Steve trained before having the Super Soldier Serum injection.

In Peggy’s office there is a picture of young, pre-serum, ‘skinny’ Steve from his training at Camp Lehigh before he got the serum injection, on her desk. This is the same picture that was in the records she was reading after he went in the ice at the end of TFA.

New Asgard is actually Tønsberg, Norway, which is where The Red Skull got the Tesseract from in the beginning of TFA

When returning Steve the shield, Tony says, “He made it for you”. Howard made the Shield for Steve after he saved the soldiers in TFA.

The jacket that Steve is wearing when he returns as an old man is the same jacket he wore at before he met Abraham Erskine.

The Avengers 

During the events of this movie is the time they go back to to get the Space, Power, and Time Stone (from the Tesseract, Scepter, and Eye of Agamotto respectfully).

Agent Sitwell appeared briefly in Avengers and Winter Soldier.

“We do our best work after the fact, we’re the Avengers”

Steve’s eye when they first go to fight Thanos at the beginning, seeing outer space for the first time, mirrors when Tony went through the portal during the Battle of New York, and saw outer space for the first time.

”We’re a long way from Budapest”.

When Scott, Natasha, and Steve visit Tony asking for help he says, ”The table’s set for six” which could be a reference to the six original avengers.

”You pulled this off. I remember a time when that seemed pretty impossible too.” Natasha referring to when the Hulk was more out of control.

Steve uses the scepter on Avenger’s Era Cap similar to how Loki used it on Clint and Erik Selvig.

When they go back to right after the Battle of New York, Tony and Thor tell Alexander Pierce they are headed to lunch, referencing the iconic Shawarma post credit scene

Steve tells Tony that he isn’t the, ”guy to make the sacrifice play. Lay down on the wire and let the other guy crawl over you”. Tony ultimately sacrifices himself for everyone.

Iron Man 3  

Harley Keener, the little boy who helps Tony in Iron Man 3, is the teenager standing alone at Tony’s funeral.

Pepper wears the armor Tony made for her which was hinted at in IM3 when she wears pieces of Tony’s armor to save Tony.

Thor: The Dark World 

Thor basically explains the events of the movie when talking about The Reality Stone/Aether.

During the events of this movie is the time they go back to to get the Reality Stone.

Frigga

Thor says “I like this one” to Carol like Loki’s “I like her” to Jane.

Loki uses his magic to make fun of Cap similar to how he does in TDW, and when Avenger’s Era Cap sees Steve he even thinks that it is Loki.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier 

“On your left”.

Natasha wears the same arrow necklace she did throughout WS.

Steve hosts a support group for survivors of the Snap/Decimation like Sam did for Veterans.

”You here to do your laundry?”

Alexander Pierce

The scene where Steve has to get the scepter is almost shot for shot the same elevator scene from Winter Soldier, he also uses the knowledge from that movie that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD to get the scepter.

After their plan to get the Tesseract from New York failed, they went to the same bunker in Camp Lehigh that was a SHIELD base, where Natasha and Steve confront the A.I. Zola.

While at the SHIELD base in Camp Lehigh, when Tony is getting the Tesseract, Howard shows up calling for Arnim, this is Dr. Arnim Zola.

Steve still thinks a hat is a disguise.

Steve tells Avengers Era Cap that Bucky is still alive to break his focus.

The song Steve and Peggy have their dance to at the end is “It’s Been A Long Time” by Harry James, a song that was popular at the end of World War II. This is the same song that Nick Fury is listening to when Steve finds him in his apartment. It could also be a reference to Peggy’s line, “It’s been so long”.

Guardian’s of The Galaxy 

During the events of this movie is the time they go back to to get the Power Stone.

The opening is used when Quill is dancing.

Nebula and Gamora from the time period of GOTG appear.

Nebula and Rocket mourn losses similar to how Rocket and Drax do at the end of GOTG.

Natasha kicks an Orloni (the rat like creature) on Morag like Quill does.

Howard The Duck appears in the final battle with a gun behind Wasp.

Rocket recreates his pose with a gun on Groot’s shoulder, just on War Machine’s shoulder.

Avengers: Age of Ultron 

“That up there...that’s the Endgame”.

“We’ll do that [lose] together too”.

Mention of the original idea behind Ultron.

”I saw this a few years back. I had a vision I didn’t want to believe it...What we needed was a suit of armor around the world.”

When testing the time travel devices Clint goes back to his farm, and starts out the film there with his family.

Clint’s Family (including Nathaniel Pietro Barton).

Tony gets a lake house, out of the city, similar to Clint’s farm.

Steve is able to pick up Mjolnir, and when he does Thor says “I knew it!”. During the party scene in AOU Steve tries to pick up Mjölnir and it budges a little but he ultimately can’t, however Thor’s line hints that Steve realized he could pick it up but decided to pretend like he couldn’t.

In the Final Battle against Thanos, Thanos breaks Steve’s shield and it looks similar to it’s broken appearance in Tony’s Vision.

When Peter uses his web to grab onto Mjölnir, it’s similar to when Pietro grabs onto Mjölnir and is pulled away.

On Natasha’s desk is an old pair of ballet pointe shoes, ballet was the cover for her assassin training as seen in her vision.

In Tony’s vision, he see’s all the other Avenger’s dead, when talking to Fury about it they say the worst part was that Tony was the only one in the vision that didn’t die. At the end of Endgame, Tony and Natasha are the only original avengers who died.

When Bruce asks Thor if he knows who helped him during a tough spot, Thor asks if it was Natasha, referencing their romantic storyline.

Ant-Man 

 In the SHIELD base in Camp Lehigh, Steve is looking for more Pym particles, there is some ants in an ant farm and an older looking Ant Man helmet.

Captain America: Civil War 

Aunt May is at Tony’s funeral.

Tony returns Steve his shield after telling him to leave it in CW.

”This is Scott Lang. We met a few years ago? At the Airport? In Germany? I was the guy who got really big…”

”Whats up regular sized man.”

Nebula comments to Rhodey “I wasn’t always like this” and he replies “Me either” referring to the mechanical crutches on his legs that Tony made to help him walk after his fall in CW.

T’Challa says, “Clint, give it to me” when they are passing around the Gauntlet. In CW when Clint introduces himself, T’Challa says “I don’t care”.

Steve calls Peter ‘Queens’ referring to their small exchange in CW.

When Tony is using his B.A.R.F. technology to play out a memory he says that he wishes he told his dad, “I love you...I know you did the best you could”. When Tony and Steve go back to 1970 to Camp Lehigh he is finally able to tell him.

The Ancient One uses similar magic on Bruce that she did on Dr. Strange

“Thanos spent a long time trying to perfect me” Nebula talks about how Thanos replaced parts of her to get her to be stronger.

The jump points they go through to get to ‘The Garden’ at the beginning look exactly like how they look in GOTG (not really a reference, just nice consistency).

Tony and Pepper’s kid is named Morgan. Tony mentions a dream of having a kid and naming the kid Morgan after Pepper’s eccentric uncle.

Peter talks about the Snap from his point of view,

“The Garden” Where Thanos retired to after the Snap

Thanos’ scarred arm and face from using the Infinity Gauntlet and all the stones at once.

Thor chops off Thanos’ head and says, “I went for the head”.

Bruce continues to use the Hulkbuster armor again instead of becoming Hulk in the first part of the film.

When they are talking about where and when to go back to to get the Infinity Stones Bruce is seen eating Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, ‘Hulk-A Hulk-A Burning Fudge’.

San Francisco has erected monuments to all the “Vanished” from the Snap/Decimation.

Bruce is in the same position, laying on his back looking up at the sky, as he was when crashed into the Sanctum Sanctorum. In both cases he was also the first person in that setting to know that Thanos was coming (in Infinity War he was sent down to warn everyone, in Endgame he is looking up at Thanos’ ship).

Wanda crushes Thanos with his own armor, similar to how Thanos crushed Rhodey in his War Machine suit.

Carol held onto The Gauntlet when Thanos was wearing it to stop him, similar to how Cap did in IW, drawing a parallel between the Captain’s and the Final Battles of each film.

When the Asgardian’s are chasing Rocket away they yell “Get that rabbit!” Like how Thor referred to Rocket as a Rabbit

Tony’s final moments with Peter, mirror Peter’s final moments in Infinity War with Tony.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

 Luis’ X-Con Van with the Quantum Tunnel in the back.

Ant-Man has been trapped in the Quantum Realm since the end of AMATW.

The suits they wear to go through the Quantum Realm are Red and White like Hank Pym’s Quantum suit, and have the same helmets the Ant-Man suit does.

Captain Marvel  

Carol lingers on a picture of Nick Fury when he shows up among the dusted hinting at their friendship that was formed in CM

“Where have you been all this time?” ”There are a lot of other planets in the universe..”

Extra 

Cameos

Stan Lee’s cameo is when Tony and Steve go back to Camp Lehigh, he is the man in the car who says, “Make Love Not War” He also has a bumper sticker that says “Nuff’ Said” one of Stan’s catchphrases.

James D’Arcy makes an appearance as Edwin Jarvis who he played in the Agent Carter show.

Ken Jeong and Yvette Nicole Brown cameo. The Russo brothers worked on the show Community and gave some of the cast members cameos in their MCU films.

Jim Starlin, the writer of the Infinity Gauntlet and the man credited for making Thanos, cameos in the support group scene.

Joe Russo, one of the directors of the film and other MCU films, cameos in the support group scene as the man who cried on a date.

Comics

Carol’s haircut after the Five Year jump is like Carol’s iconic short hair in the comics.

Thanos’ armor as a scarecrow the same way it is in the Infinity Gauntlet comics.

When they go back to 1970, Steve’s disguise has the name Roscoe on it. Roscoe Simons replaced Steve as Captain America in the comics at one point.

During the remake of the Elevator Scene from Winter Soldier, Steve uses the knowledge from Winter Solider of HYDRA having infiltrated SHIELD, and whispers “Hail Hydra” to Agent Sitwell. This is a reference to the Secret Empire story where Hydra made a clone of Steve.

In the SHIELD base in Camp Lehigh, Steve is looking for more Pym particles, there is an older looking Ant Man helmet, which looks exactly like the old Ant Man helmet from the comics.

Okoye mentions a seismic incident on the ocean floor, this could be a reference to Namor, The Sub-Mariner, one of the original characters, debuting in Marvel Comics #1 published by Timely Comics (which later became Marvel).

There is a comic series called “Asgardians of The Galaxy”.

Morgan Stark is the name of Tony’s evil cousin in the comics.

Captain America standing alone against Thanos is similar to a scene from the Infinity Gauntlet comic.

The first time ‘Avengers Assemble’ is (finally) spoken in the films. The first time it was spoken was by Thor in Avengers #10.

Ant-Man’s van is in lockup 616, Earth-616 is the main universe for the comics.

Clint calls his daughter by his alias, Hawkeye. The female Hawkeye in the comics is Kate Bishop, not his daughter, but she does train under Clint.

A middle ground Hulk/Bruce is called ‘Professor Hulk’ in the comics.

In The Mighty Thor #390 Captain America picks up Mjolnir and hands it to Thor.

MCU/Marvel Films

During his message to Pepper he says “It’s day 21? No 22”. Endgame is the 22nd film in the MCU.

”The table’s set for six” could be a reference to six original avengers. Or Tony, Pepper, Morgan, Happy, Peter, and Rhodey.

Rhodey suggests killing Thanos when he was a baby. Similar to the baby Hitler scene in Deadpool 2.

Wakandans, Asgardians, Ravagers, and Master of The Mystic Arts’ all show up in the final battle against Thanos, making up the larger groups outside of the individual heroes. Chitauri and Outriders make up the bulk of Thanos’ army.

From this movie it looks like the official deaths from Infinity War and Endgame are; Heimdall, Loki, Vision, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, and Tony Stark/Iron Man. Gamora was brought from the past to the future by Thanos, and fought in the final battle against him, but seems to be missing by the end of the film.

Within The Film

When Tony and Pepper are discussing whether he should use time travel and help the Avengers she asks,”But would you be able to rest?” When he is dying at the end she says, ”You can rest now”.

Steve tells Natasha “I think we both need to get a life” Natasha says, “You first”. Later Tony tells Steve he needs to get a life. At the end of the film, when Steve comes back older he says he “tried one of those lives Tony was talking about”.

When Tony agrees to help, he says to Steve that he wants to ”Maybe not die trying”.

Before Hulk uses the gauntlet Tony made to Snap everyone back into existence, he says “none of you would survive”. Tony dies after he snaps Thanos and his army away.

One of the last people we (sorta) see get dusted is Clint’s wife Laura, after Hulk snaps everyone back, the first person we get indication of being back is Laura when she calls Clint’s phone.

The newest character/hero we see in the film is Pepper Potts in her Rescue armor.

TV/Books/Media

’Time Heist’ is Scott’s suggested name for their plan. It is also the name of a Doctor Who, a show about time travel, episode from 2014. Karen Gillan who plays Nebula, played Amy Pond in Doctor Who one of the Doctor’s companions.

Several Time Travel films/shows are mentioned by name, “Back to The Future” “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” “Star Trek” “Terminator” “Time After Time” “Time Cop” “Quantum Leap” “A Wrinkle In Time” “Somewhere In Time” “Hot Tub Time Machine”

Sebastian Stan plays an antagonist character, Blaine, in Hot Tub Time Machine which is mentioned by Scott and Rhodey.

Jeff Bridges plays Obadiah Stane in Iron Man and also The Dude in the Big Lebowski. Several characters call Thor ‘The Dude’ or ‘Lebowski’ and he just does actually look like him in Endgame with the robe and sunglasses

Tony calls Rocket “Ratchet” like Ratchet and Clank, where the Ratchet character is feline like, kinda raccoon-ish, who is a mechanic like Rocket.

”This is the part when spikes come out with skeletons on the end of them and everything. When you enter a place called the Temple of the Power stone there’s gonna be a bunch of booby traps”. Rhodey referencing movies like Indiana Jones.

Ken Jeong’s cameo character reads a book called The Terminal Beach by J.G. Ballard which includes a short story called “End-Game”

A-113 shows up behind Bruce when they are testing Tony’s time travel devices. A-113 is a common easter egg, referencing a room number at Cal-Arts, hidden in many Pixar and Disney films.

First Scene is actually Hawkeye losing his family to the snap. He doesn’t actually see it happen as he is facing the other direction. We then get the Tony/Nebula sequence (paper football, etc). Tony records his message to Pepper. When he falls asleep, Nebula takes him to the front of the ship and sits him in the pilots seat. He wakes up and sees something glowing outside the window. Captain Marvel helps them return to Earth. Pepper, Rocket, Steve and Rhodey all come out to greet him. Tony is very shaken, particularly about losing Peter.

Movie starts with the Avengers trying to find Thanos. Steve wasn’t to know where Thanos is and asks Tony, but Tony says he doesn’t know, They argue. Nebula knows of Thanos’ garden he said he would once go to when he completed his goal. They found him because of the energy he released using the gauntlet. Thanos is alone, and tells them he used the gauntlet to destroy the gems. He is weak and Thor, angry, decapitates him.

Title Card and five years later.

Natasha is now basically in charge of what's left of the Avengers is talking to them via holograms. Basically the world is in ruins and they're trying to salvage it. Carol is there via hologram with a new haircut and uniform and tells them that she's covering thousands of planets and won't be able to come back to Earth for a "long time".

Steve and Nat talk about how the Avengers are family. Inside a storage shed is Luis’s van. A rat is crawling over the Quantum controls and activated the switch which brings Scott out. He’s now locked inside the cage but starts waving at the security cameras. A guard lets him out and he is walking the streets confused as to why everything is so overgrown and run down. He finds a memorial which lists the names of the ‘missing’ on large stones. He starts reading them panicking that Cassie might be listed on them. But she isn’t. He sees her at home, as an older version of herself. Scott drives to the Avengers facility and Nat and Steve let him in and he tells them about the Quantum realm and how they might be able to build a time machine to go back to the past before everything happened. They visit Tony, but he doesn’t want to help. He’s happy with the way that his life is, with Pepper and his daughter Morgan. They leave and to visit Bruce who is now Professor Hulk.

The plan becomes to start looking for the gems in the past. Initially Banner builds quantum time machine and sends Scott back to test but it is faulty, Tony refuses to help at this point, however, he returns Caps shield and they make up. He tweaks Banners Quantum Machine, The catch is that they need quantum particles for it to work.

Natasha goes to Japan to get Clint. He is mourning his family and is not certain of the plan. Rocket and Hulk go to get Thor who is drinking and playing video games with Korg and Meik. (Funny joke involving an online video game troll)

Finally the team then all suit up and discuss their plans to get the stones. They make it clear that they can not mess up because there is only enough Quantum particles for one trip for each of them.

Tony, Scott, Steve and Bruce go to the Battle of New York. Hulk meets the Ancient One at Dr Stranger's future home. Ancient One refuses to give the Time Stone to Bruce but relents when Bruce tells her that Dr Strange will give the stone to Thanos.

Cap, Iron Man and Scott tries to retrieve the Tessaract after Loki surrenders. SHIELD/Hydra agents Crossbones and that bald guy with glasses in Winter Soldier retrieve the brief case containing the Tessaract. Past Hulk funnily has to walk down lots of flights of stairs as he can't go on lift due to maximum capacity. Cap meets with Crossbones with the briefcase in elevator along with other Hydra agents. He convinces them to give him the briefcase containing the staff when he utters two words: Hail Hydra. Cap gets the briefcase. Tony in disguise as a SWAT soldier tells Scott to disable his past self's chest reactor to give him a minor seizure while his past self meets up with Alexander Pierce who demands the Mind Stone and Loki. Present Tony retrieves the briefcase but past Hulk accidentally knocks out Tony and Loki uses the confusion to teleport out with the Tessaract. Present Cap accidentally meets with his 2012 self, and 2012 self thinks he's Loki in disguise. They fought and 2012 has present self in chokehold when he tells his past self that Bucky is alive. He then taps his past self with staff to knock him out.

In Asgard, fat Thor and Rocket plans to retrieve the Aether out of Jane Foster's body. Thor's mother meets his 'son' and know he's from the future. Rocket retrieves the aether out of Jane by prodding her off screen and gets chased by guards. Before Thor leaves, he retrieves Mjolnir!

On Morag, War Machine and Nebula stays on Morag while Clint and Nat goes to Voromir via a ship that Rocket miniatures for Clint. Unknown to Nebula, her past self's nervous system and databanks are connected to each other and Thanos finds out where the stones are and how he meets his fate.

Cap and Tony transport back to 1970 at the SHIELD training site seen in Winter Soldier and goes underground to retrieve that era's Tessaract. Tony retrieves the Tesseract while meeting his dad. He calls himself Howard Potts. Cap makes a prank call to young Hank Pym and sneaks into his office to steal 4 vials of Pym Particles. Cap also sees Peggy. Cap and Tony teleport back to present.

WM and Nebula knocks out Quill during his dance in intro of GOTG. They got the stone and WM and Nebula was meant to teleport together but WM only succeeded. Present Nebula and past Nebula meets and fights and past Nebula takes her place to go back to present.

On Voromir, Clint and May meets the Red Skull as seen in Infinity War and is told how to retrieve the stone. Clint and Nat fought each other. Clint jumped off cliff but Nat catches him and held on by grappling rope. She falls off and dies like Gamora. Clint now has the Stone.

All members went back to present and everyone is devastated by Nat's death. Tony and Bruce constructs the Infinity Gauntlet and Thor wants to wield it but Hulk goes instead as he's the strongest one and the stones emit gamma radiation according to him. He wields it and snaps his fingers restoring all life lost. Clint's wife calls him on mobile. Hulk suffers extreme pain in his right arm due to IG. Past Nebula activates the Quantum teleporter and summons Thanos' warship and blasts the Avengers HQ to ruins with missiles.

Hulk lifting up rubble similar to Secret Wars cover where he lifts up a whole mountain except this is less in film lol.

Clint finds the gauntlet and is being chased by Outriders creatures in last film. He kills them and is met by past Nebula. Gamora and present Nebula meets up and Nebula kills her past self.

Cap, Tony and Thor teams up against Thanos. Thor is losing against Thanos even though he has Stormbreaker and Mjolnir. Thanos is about to kill Thor with SB when:

Cap lifts up Mjolnir and beats Thanos with hammer and shield.

Thanos uses his double blade weapon to break Cap's shield in half.

Thanos summons his whole army including the Black Order and some new creatures. Cap is all by himself against a whole army.

He hears Sam's voice and he turns around and see EVERYONE who has vanished PLUS huge armies of Wakandans, sorcerers and Asgardians (no signs of Warrior Three). Wong, Valkyrie, Wasp and Pepper Potts as Rescue turns up as well. Ant Man becomes Giant Man.

Clint plays American Football with IG and passes it to Black Panther then Spidey. Quill meets past Gamora and gets hit in the balls, not believing he is the one she loves lol. Scarlet Witch overpowers Thanos but Thanos orders missiles to hit everyone including his forces. Captain Marvel shows up to destroy Thanos' flagship and gets the IG and dashes towards the goal. There is a bit where Hope and Scott goes to the van with the Quantum teleporter in the middle of battlefield. Was lost in the moment so forgot why they doing that, sorry.

All female Marvel characters fight Thanos. Spidey's armoured suit goes autokill mode with the extra arms.

Thanos tries to take the gauntlet off Marvel by headbutting her but didn't phase her.

Thanos retrieves the gauntlet away from Stark and he snaps his fingers. Nothing happened. The stones went to Stark and before he snaps his fingers, he says 'I'm Iron Man'.

White flash of light.

All of Thanos' forces turn to dust including Thanos himself.

Tony dies from using the gauntlet. Everyone mourns.

The battle is won but at a cost.

Holographic Tony gives a message to everyone present including his daughter.

A wreath with Tony's chest reactor is laid to rest at the lake near Tony's hut.

Everyone is present including GOTG, Peter, Maria, Ross, Nick and Hank and Janet.

Thor, still fat designates Valkyrie as Queen of New Asgard in Tonnsberg. Thor is now travelling with GOTG to find Gamora and maybe more Asgardians. Quill and Thor are about to fight for leadership lol.

Scott, Cassie and Hope are together again. Wakanda is back with his King.

Cap goes on a mission to put back the stones and Mjolnir to their proper places. Hulk says to Sam and Buck that he should be back in 5 secs. He didn't. Sam sees a old man at a bench and it's Old Man Steve (who looks like Clint Eastwood now but less wrinkles and bit younger than he is lol). Steve has wedding ring and passes his shield to Sam. Sam is honoured.

Ending shows young Cap dancing with Peggy at their house. That's it.

Credits music is set to 1930s music then shows all cast members. The main cast is shown with their signatures on it.

There is NO post credit scenes which is a first for a MCU.

Stan Lee cameo is set in 1970s where he is shown in his 70s younger self driving a car with a woman, driving past a army base where Cap and Tony retrieves the Tesseract there.

Darrow’s coping mechanism - Eo’s sanctification: #astrearants

I  promised you an analyses of why Darrow seems to see no wrong when it comes to Eo during Red Rising and Golden Son. Now, this (and every other post that I make in this from) is more of a “my thoughs on” because I’m not an expert. This is just how I see the situation.

At the very beginning, we find out that Darrow and Eo, although happily married, they have different views. Darrow is resigned with his life as a Helldiver, wants to have children and grow as old as the dangers of the mines will allow and believes Reds help the planet terraform. This is partially due to seeing his father being  taken away, hanged by a loved one, then seeing his corpse rot away until its dust combines with the red dust underneath the gallows; all because he started a peaceful revolution with the Reaping Dance. Eo, on the other hand, believes Reds are slaves and she wants to fight for freedom. And she wants Darrow to do the same.

 Bit by bit, he (and we as readers) is proved wrong: the guards are treating him like he is a slave and he doesn’t retaliate out of fear, the Gamma Helldiver has a very telling one-liner, the losing of the Laurel, Eo’s dream of something more, the punishment the two of them receive after getting caught in the garden watching the stars. All of these combined with Eo’s execution for singing, Darrow pulling her legs, Darrow getting executed for burying her etc give away the cruelty of the Society and it shows us that Eo is right. Reds aren’t pioneers, they are slaves.

But Darrow is unfortunately too caught up in his denial and then trauma to see things clearly right away. 

His love for Eo is selfish, he doesn’t understand why she would do that - kill herself to prove a point, why she would leave him, why would she think the cause was more important than their lives together, why doesn’t she love him like he loves her.

But Eo’s death isn’t about Darrow (if you think her death is to make Darrow develop in some kind of way or for him to mourn someone and have a tragic backstory, then please read again). Her death is about Reds. About the golden chains of the society, about a Vale of better dreams.It’s to start the spark of the inferno that the Rising will be. The Rising is hers, because she started it and she martyrised herself for it out of her own choice. And while it was her choice, we can;t deny that the Sons of Ares had a hand in orchestrating the executions (yes, plural). Because they filmed Eo’s execution and made it public (and so, Eo became Persephone) and then they used Narol to get Darrow. I suspect that in  the 3 days of incarceration between the garden scene and the execution, Eo had a visit or a mean of communication with someone. And that might have been a deciding factor.

Getting back on track, Darrow lets go of denial when Dancer shows him the terraformed planet. And all that is left is trauma. And it messes with his head. Because Eo was right on this issue - Reds being slaves - (now here what I think happened to him, this might be right, but it also might be wrong) he felt guilty. I think he started going on the “what if” route: what if Eo was here, what if I believed her from the beginning, what if they fought together; maybe then her sacrifice wouldn’t have been needed. 

I think his blind devotion to her and eventual sanctification (well, she’s not exactly a saint, but he doesn;t seem to realise that for like...a few years) has something to do with clinging. He clung to the life his father left behind and now he clings to the way he loved Eo - for him, she was his entire world. That’s why when she died, he wanted to die too. So he clings to his past: he considers Eo’s opinion or thoughs (”Eo would have wanted that”, “Eo couldn’t have even guessed it would be this complicated” etc.), he always wonders if he has two hearts to give/if he can love two people (eventually he realises that he loved/loves two different people at different stages of his life and in two very different ways), he takes into account that Eo might be watching from the Vale.

He can’t see that while Eo’s sacrifice was for ‘ a greater good’, it was also a selfish act (not solely because of Darrow, but also because of Dio - her sister -  and their father) and he tries to make her dream a reality at whatever cost. He does it for her.

As annoying as he is when it comes to sanctifying his dead wife, I can’t help but try to be understanding towards him. Because it doesn’t occur to him to consider that Eo was wrong until Deanna tells him she didn’t like her. I mean...why would he think everyone liked Eo? Or that she wasn’t wrong about stuff? I think that it was so soul-shattering for him to discover that Eo’s sacrifice wasn’t in vain (like he initially thought)  and that he might have subconsciously decided that she couldn’t be wrong. He basically continued to live for her - this time what remained of her - her dream. But it’s not a flat state of mind. It’s more like a process...as he experiences and learns, his coping mechanism evolves with him. He lets himself love again bit by bit. Sometimes he regresses and goes back to old habits. It’s harder for him when he feels all alone and abandoned. When he has to keep up pretenses for far too long. 

After the torture endured in Attica, he realized that he was wrong. In Morning Star he finds the answers: he can’t live for the past. The Rising, the war...is not about Eo (or not entirely about her), it’s about the future - the new generations, the children’s chance at a better future, his family’s freedom, his people’s freedom. He fights for those who live and those who aren’t born yet. He lets go of Eo, he stops clinging to the past. He dreams  and lives for more. But again, it’s not like a magic wand. It was a process for him to get to this stage. It wasn’t a bigger trauma that helped get rid of a smaller one. 

Hope I made some sense in my interpretation of this part of Darrow’s character. Tell me your thoughts, I am really curious. I know people are annoyed at Darrow regarding Eo as some sort of perfect person (so am I), but I have never seen a discussion about why does Darrow do that? Is there a point to it? Hope my take gives some satisfying answers. Tell me your interpretation if you have one.

Asteria: The Fey King's Mate - Chapter 3 The Creepy Witch

When she gets herself, her expression is grim. "What did you do to anger them?"

I flatten my lips and tilt my head. "Nothing at all, they just appear in my dreams and I always don't remember but I now remember flashes."

She is thoughtful. "Do you know any of them?"

I scowl. "No!" Why is she asking me questions.

She gathers a fine looking stone and twirls it around. "Are you related to any of them?"

What?

Instead of answering, I turn to Minerva and send her a look. She shrugs in return and asks. "Why are you asking her these questions?"

The witch raises an eyebrow, her wicked smile in place. "I am asking her these questions." She points to me. "Not you, and these questions are recommended if you want me to help her."

I send Minerva a look to shut up. We need this. I need this.

The witch leans back in her chair. "Faeries are very cunning and dangerous, so you must have something they want or did something they didn't like." A small smile raises her lips. "I will help you; but it's only to make a bad impression on the faery."

What the..

"I don't understand. Faeries are dangerous; you can be killed."

She laughs and waves me off. "I have allies, enough of them and besides, I need a trophy probably the ears of a faery."

"Okay." I drawl. Is she crazy or something? She probably is. Witches!

She fumbles with a small bag she took out and take a bottle out of it. I don't know the content but it looks like vomit. She stretches it out to us and Minerva gingerly grabs it.

"Take this, it will help. Just drink it when you're going to sleep; you will dream about puppies, unicorns, anything of your wish." Her wicked lips curl up in a smile. "And I'll take your dreams away."

What does she mean by that? One thing I know is that she isn't to be messed with.

The wicked gleam in her eyes and expression fades away, not even a hint is left as she gathers the disputed materials on the table.

"Thank you miss... Witch. How much is-"

The witch is on her feet and we follow her to stand too.

"That won't be necessary, you have paid me quite enough." She sends us a distant smile and strikes her arm downward. The scenery suddenly changes and we are in our car.

What just happened?

"Did that witch just use her charm on us?"

I let out a long shaky breath and try to relax on the leather seat. Her magic is strange and evil. I can still feel it in my body, rushing through me.

"I think we should return the concoction. I don't like her."

Minerva twirls her body to look at me. "I don't like her either but this is our only resolve."

I shake my head and maintain my presence state. Her magic is still moving in me. I can feel it.

"What if she has a hidden agenda, what if she's playing us a trick. A very big trick that will cost us." I start getting overwhelmed, thinking about what will happen to us. What will it cost?

Her fingers grab unto mine and she tries to assure me that everything will be fine. I find it hard to believe, I know in the future it will cost us. I hope it's not much.

She gets go of my hand and turns to the car.

"We have to stay at a permanent place for now to solve this problem, then we start moving."

"Where are we going?" I ask. The only place we lived permanently was destroyed.

She grips the steering wheel tight and speeds into the road. "Alpha Malik's Pack."

My mouth slacks open and my brows furrow." That's an hour drive Eva."

She doesn't stare at me. "That's the only pack I trust." Maybe too much.

The majority of an hour, I use to think and then later resolve to playing games. Minerva's eyes never left the road, not once. One main record.

When we arrive at the park, she slops in victory while I gaze around.

I never really liked the pack house, Minerva does and all I can do is be with her. We have never been far away from each other before and we can't start now.

This is her sanctuary, her home. I see it in her eyes, her body responses. As for me I have nothing but my sister.

As we step out of the car, various scents attack me. Of course, we are standing in front of the pack house and I can smell several werewolves ahead of us, including the alpha.

His dark raven hair comes into my view. He's bulky and muscular and also accompanied by his mate, the Luna and other ranked officers.

His lips curl up into a friendly smile. To Minerva, he is a fatherly figure and his mate is like her mother, but I don't view them that way; they are only figures I have to meet. Like her High school friends that I meet but don't fit in with.

Yes! They did raise me till I became old enough to fend for myself, but I've never felt at home and they know that too.

When he comes closer he drags her into a hug and moves forward to awkwardly pat my shoulder while his mate hugs Minerva tightly. "We missed you." She whispers in her ear with a small smile before pulling away.

"When you said you were coming we were so excited, I couldn't wait to tease you." The beta of the pack announces as he hugs her.

I kinda knew she was mindlinking the Alpha. Werewolves can mindlink others in their pack, it is common when they are in only wolf form but can also be done if the wolf and the human has a strong connection.

They continue their greetings and hugs while passing small pats on my shoulder. I don't fit in here at all, but I try to act like I belong because of Minerva. She has done so much for me and this is all I can do for her. She even left her pack, this pack to become a lone wolf just because a human like me would be a major target from enemies. Though she is in the pack since she has the ability to mindlink it's members, let's just say she travels a lot. It is really complicated.

The Alpha and Luna leads us into the pack house while the beta, gamma and delta pairs go their separate ways.

The pack house is busy, very busy. It always fascinate me everytime I come here. It is modern but also has a regal touch to it. It has chandleries dancing from the ceiling and fancy flower pots and sparkling tiles. It looks a bit different from how it was before.

I glance at Minerva and watch her smile and chat with the pack members that comes to greet her. She is a natural. Everyone flocks around her but no one comes to me.

I am a nobody, no one remembers the little fraternal twin sister that grew up with the social bumbling she-wolf. The one that lost her parents too, the one that never met them. The odd one among the wolves; the human.

A part of my brain warns me, reprimand me for bringing myself down, unfortunately, that part is very tiny so I ignore it. Ignorance is the best medicine in my hospital aka book.

At the end of the day we are shown to our rooms after a full crowd disperse from Minerva.

If I call them leeches they would be offended since they hate vampires and won't scope so low to suck blood.

I am laying on the bed in the room given to me, gazing at the stars. The bed is situated with a great view. Minerva is two rooms away from me and I don't like it. It makes me uneasy.

I clutch my shaking hand, it does little to keep me off the anxiety. I let out a heavy breath. Think about nature, nature, nature. Green grass, sand, water... the wind.

My chest heaves as I give out air and close my eyes simultaneously. I sleep with a smile on my face.

I get nightmares again, but I can't remember them. They disappear from my memories so I make them disappear from my thoughts.

When I wake up it is by the morning rays. A beautiful form of awareness. I don't dwell on the absence of my sister and do my morning routine and go out for breakfast.

Minerva is already seated on the large pack table, a couple of seats from the Alpha.

"Good morning L." Says Minerva, once I get close to her. She is glowing in her yellow sun dress which takes me aback. She hardly wear dresses.

I narrow my eyes dramatically, the idea of her finding her mate slipping into my mind, but I dismiss it once I remember that we come here every once in a year and she's not seating with a man.

My curiosity spikes again when I catch a few persons coming this way. "Did you find your mate?" He might be one of the males in this room.

She scowls at me with glaring eyes. Well, her glowing is gone. "No, do you want to get rid of me that easily?"

I wave my arms frantically. "No, no, I was just asking." I catch a glimpse of her incoming friends. "I better go now."

She looks like she's about to say something but I slip away before she does and her friends comes tumbling over.

I settle on a seat in the far end and eat breakfast. Everyone one ignores me and I ignore them, well except for Minerva, my eyes are on her since the very start.

I should probably learn to stay on my own, and the first stage starts after I'm done eating.

Since I have nothing better to do, I parade and search the pack house for the garden. The urge to feel the grass in my hands and the feeling of wind heightens.

I think I spend almost an hour looking for the garden. I come across the dungeon, the ballroom and other scary places and I always come out unnoticed. I thank myself for that.

When I arrive at the garden, it's empty and silent. I think it's because we have visitors and everyone is so busy today, I found out when I was starting my search.

On any other time we visit. I don't normally come out but this time I did and it's confusing. Something draws me here. I slowly take a seat on the bench.

"Hello."

I jump up with my arms up in defense as I panic and look around. I see no one until my eyes fall on the bench I was sitting on.

Green eyes.

I think a high pitched scream leaves me. Green eyes raises a perfectly made eyebrow at me as I try to calm my racing heart.

"I...thought n-no one was here."

My heart beat climbs down from it's fast racing and decreases it's nitro. I take a long sigh and perch back on the bench, admiring the greenery... green eyes is still at staring at me, I am very much aware but I ignore him, green eyes will ignore me very soon, they always do.

"Lady..."

I try to heave out frustration through my sigh. I have never sighed two time because of a person. I am improving.

Remembering the task at hand, I turn to green eyes and that's when I know that it's a male. A male with perfect eyebrows, very very light coloured hair, a straight nose, high cheek bones, cupid-bow lips and... green eyes. Inhuman and vibrant green eyes, very green as fresh leaves, plant or grass.

I find myself unable to look away from his eyes until he blinks and it tears my gaze away from him and back to the plants.

"Lady, you just won an award." What? Is he mad or something? Now I'm confused. His small smile meets my eyes, it looks naughty.

"I think you have the wrong girl."

His smile grows wider, "no, I don't. You manage to look me in the eye for more than two seconds. It's a new record that must be rewarded." At least I have been breaking records in my book and his.

I shrug my shoulders. "I don't trust strangers, green eyes. No, thanks." Did I just call him green eyes. My eyes widen in shock.

He narrows his eyes. His green eyes looks much better no matter how he puts it. He uses his hand and tries to sit up but it slips- is this bench really slippery- and lands on mine.

I almost roll my eyes when I see our touching fingers. Something passes through me but it's gone the same time it came.

His expression is jaw slacked, literally, his jaw is slacked. Hmm, he has a strong jaw bone.

Now I roll my eyes, is this the modern way of charming a girl to sleep with you? What is the world becoming?

He closes his eyes and slowly removes his hand. No, you could have left it there, maybe the charm is working. Not.

His eyelids open, his long eyelashes flutter. Green eyes like nature is starting at me again and this time something passes through me again, and again it is gone just like that. It's almost frustrating that I don't know the 'something.'

He looks away quickly just when joy starts to feel the depths of his iris. I can't believe I can read eye emotion.

He now shifts uncomfortably and clears his throat with a cough.

"What's your name." He looks almost shy, his eyes flick everywhere but me. Oh, this is another way to charm.

Before I can give him a piece of my mind,he adds. "It's not a charm." He can read minds. Oh goddess, this is another level.

Around the country, it’s getting ever harder for the other 99% to pay for housing, as both apartments and home prices just keep going up and up … and up. Where will it end? Even well-paid techies are complaining that their hefty salaries aren’t high enough to make ends meet in some of America’s most expensive cities.

But, increasingly, some savvy individuals are finding alternatives. Folks with flexible lifestyles are tapping into careers, or at least gigs, that offer free or heavily subsidized housing.

For instance, instead of forking over the national median monthly rent of $950 for a one-bedroom apartment, some are staying in a swanky abode with adorable, furry friends for the price of, well, nothing. Similarly, instead of paying a median $1,491 a month for a mortgage, property taxes, insurance, and other homeownership-related costs, others are living in charmingly rustic accommodations in the great outdoors for a heavily discounted rate. (Rental data are as of May 1 from Apartment List, and monthly homeownership costs are from the U.S. Census Bureau.)

Animal lovers in the know have long been aware of the need for at-home pet sitters, but a plethora of apps and websites make it easier than ever to match sitters with folks seeking live-in caregivers for their homes and fur babies while they’re out of town. Welcome to the pet-based gig economy!

And those who do it say the lifestyle has saved them quite a bit of dough over the years.

Thierry, 54, and Miyuki, 59, have been sitting full time for the past five years and part time before that. In 2007, the married couple (who don’t want their last name used) quit their jobs—he as a French instructor, she as an executive assistant—to travel the world. They chose destinations based on marathons Thierry wanted to run.

They spend six months a year in Japan, three months at a time, and are booked in Tokyo through the end of August. They have pet-sat and occasionally house-sat in the U.S., Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, France, and Japan. Although they aren’t paid for their sitting gigs, and use their savings for living expenses, the work allows them to travel the world while reducing their lodging and transportation costs by 80% to 90%.

Initially, they found pet-sitting gigs through friends and word of mouth. Now, they find work through the website TrustedHousesitters.com, which connects pet owners and sitters all over the world.

One of the most luxurious sits they did was at a house in Copacabana, Australia, with a pool, gardener, and access to a car. The house was on the market, so Thierry and Miyuki were in constant touch with the real estate agent—organizing open houses, facilitating prospective buyers’ visits, making sure the pool and garden were in pristine condition, and looking after a 14-year-old cat that was not allowed in the house while it was on the market. They also had to make sure the furniture used for staging remained undamaged.

“We thrive on knowing we are making a huge difference to owners [who have] very old cats, blind dogs, or extremely sick animals, or who have several pets, who couldn’t afford overpriced boarding,” says Thierry.

Love the outdoors? Work and live in a national park

The wilderness is calling—and for those nature lovers who can’t wait until vacation time to go camping, the National Park Service might qualify as a dream employer.

Though housing isn’t free, the park service offers lower-cost rentals for some necessary employees. This perk is often reserved for law enforcement rangers, medics, and maintenance and water quality workers, who are required to live within parks that aren’t close to civilization. That’s because outside ambulance response times can easily top two or three hours in the larger reserves.  

If this is your office, you may be in line for cheap housing.

Park housing also helps to ensure employees aren’t saddled with 200-mile roundtrip commutes. The accommodations can run from rustic bunkhouses to shared apartments and duplexes and even private houses, says John Craig, a district ranger at Everglades National Park in Florida.

The subsidized housing helped him to save up for a single-family home that he recently bought with his wife in Homestead, FL.

“The cost of housing is based on how remote you are and the square footage and how new it is and what condition it’s in,” Craig says. “It’s generally cheaper than whatever the local community pays, though the park service tries to have some kind of equity between local market rates and [cost of] park housing.”

Craig was required to live in park housing for his first eight years with the park service as a law enforcement ranger. For two years, he shared one of four flats in a quadplex at the Point Reyes National Seashore. Each flat had two bedrooms, and bathrooms, living rooms, and kitchens were shared.

“You’re living in a national park in one of the most beautiful places in America,” Craig says. “When I walk out my front door, I’m at work.”

Relive your college days—in a student dorm

Returning to college dorm life can be quite a different experience after your prime beer pong days are over. Those brave enough to embrace and actually organize student programs and events can score free housing plus utilities at many universities. In exchange, these staff members typically must be on call at all hours for any urgent resident problems.

Gaby Bermudez, 25, spent the past four months in a spacious and furnished one-bedroom apartment on the scenic campus of Dominican University of California as the residence life coordinator for 450 students. The small, private school is about 20 miles north of San Francisco in San Rafael, CA.

Her duties included making sure student resident advisers in dorms were putting together programs and overseeing everything from roommate fights to building work orders. On top of the free digs, which would have cost her well over $2,000 a month on the open rental market, she received a salary in the mid-$50,000s.

“Living on campus is one of the biggest perks of the job,” she says. “And living in Marin County and not paying rent saves me a lot.”

Personality:

Just like everything in his life, Kyou studied how to have the appropriate personality. It’s always a pleasurable sight to see the look at the faces of freshmen whenever they find out who is the President of the prestige Alpha Tau Gamma brotherhood, not expecting the person to be not as wild as his brethren. However, during his stay in the house, Kyou has made sure that those born into wealth will be acting as such, only allowing “barbaric” actions when under influence (or when he isnt around, to be honest).

Kyou is a person that in default, without sin. He has learned to wake up necessary parts of person only when it is advantageous for the house and/or himself.

Wrath The birth of the “red” prince is a show of dominance and power. It was when Kyou was at the end of his second year of undergraduate program, in the first few months after being the president of Alpha Tau Gamma. He was given the position of the former president a few months early for the latter to focus on his incoming graduating year matters (and the brotherhood weirdly having no junior members that were… responsible at the time), and it seemed that other members will no simply obey a someone younger than them, nevertheless a soft looking bitch.

It was two hours past lights out when Kyou found out that there are some seniors still up and getting high in the yard. Ten minutes later and the other members were taking pictures and videos from their rooms and the yard of the two seniors getting beaten up to unconsciousness.

It’s not that he’s powerful or anything, heck- Kyou probably can’t open a jar of pickles. However he has been taught of a way to use an opponent’s strength against them, a fluid dance that is lethal yet mesmerizing to watch.

Lust It’s not so rare that the Alpha’s parties sometimes get a little out of hand and maybe there are times when the party goes to even the President’s room, a place untouched by anyone except the vice president.

It is when Kyou is somewhat human, when his cranial desires are on the steering wheel with alcohol as fuel and his reason in the backseat. However, it is not in his nature to get undressed during the act or actually sleep beside the person. He is infamous for not sleeping with the same person twice with rare exemptions, and for staying up all night studying while waiting for the person to wake up, get dressed, and go home.

Gluttony The part of Kyou rarest awake, gluttony, isn’t only applicable for food, but all excessive intake of anything. Obsession or addiction, one could say.

But even him and all his 18 years of being trained to be perfect is not invulnerable to worldly pleasures of pizza. Just saying.

Greed and Pride Working together, these enable Kyou to be hungry for perfection and nothing but prestige and high honor for his house, albeit the well-established (and to be honest, well-evidenced) stereotype against them.

Kyou is a person who does everything in high excellence, thus waking up these personalities are a rare occurrence, contrary to one might believe. He had his mother’s soft personality, and only when Kyou feels like he is being belittled that he has his father’s stubbornness, greed for nothing less than perfection and pride that one should be careful to never challenge

Envy Lover of rare things, Kyou has a passion for the concept of being unparalleled. He would spend excessively to be the only one who has a certain item, buying all and disposing the copies and keeping only one.

Making sure there is no master higher than him, this is the personality that isn’t woken up by Kyou but instead wakes up on its own and lights the fire within the blue prince to take any god damn measure to get what he wants.

Sloth The part of Kyou that haven’t waken up even once since it first slept. For obvious reasons.

Background:

Once upon a time, there were twins, a young boy and girl, that lived on top of a hill. It was a small mansion that their parents gave them, and here they lived loved and adored by many for their ethereal perfection. Eyes that had the innocence of a child and the piercing stare of a predator, voices that spoke like honey. Their every move was fluid and graceful, that no dance would ever compare.

The young lad grew to be one of the most intelligent person in the vicinity, her personal collection of books are visited by scholars all around the world. The young lady stayed outside of the castle more than her brother, her skill in reading behavior and public speaking recognized even outside their small town.

But they were getting older and still had no families to their name. The two were well sought after, even people from different towns and high profile ones, however no one was able to make their hearts skip a beat.

“Tell me, brother. Why is there no one that parallels you? I am desperate for a child to bear and a husband to submit to, but humans are full of faults. I do not wish to be wed with a person who acts barbaric.” the female twin asked one night, her long hair being combed by the brother in their garden.

“You are not alone in that thought. I do not wish to be wed with a person that is significantly inferior to me, a wife should be a man’s counsel. I need a person who can understand scholarly problems.” the man replied.

“What would we name him?” She then again asked, her hair being combed by her brother in their gardens while the newborn lad is sucking on her tit.

“People would come for us for what we did, but it is for the better good. The world needs someone who will bear our blood without this fault-full tainting him. A pristine child, free from the barbaric and idiotic genes.”

An offering to knowledge, Eiji Kyou.

For the rest of the world, it was an act of sin. Two decades later, the twins would be held mentally incapacitated, and their only son sent miles away from them. However everything was kept secret by the government, everything can be hushed by money anyways.

Eiji Kyou grew up just as closed off as his parents. They were his teachers before he entered college, being taught privately in their library. He was taught religion by his father, pointing out the flaws in every belief and discipline that ever existed. He was taught etiquette by his mother, reminding him to abandon opinion and prioritize aesthetic. Everything that he is, a spitting image of what his parents could’ve been if they were born in one body.

When he first got enrolled in the university, some say that the person whom they’ll call the blue prince later on had the aura of being ethereal both in a good and bad way. Like he had no faults, making him seem unworldly and not human. However, Kyou learned about this and studied how to loosen up and be clumsy at times, his mother’s voice echoing in his head.

“The first step in persuading is being relatable. Be too fault-less and they won’t consider you as their own. Remember, do not be perfect. Instead, do everything perfectly.”

And perfectly he did his job. Knowledge is there, but where’s the sacrifice? His parents are living as freemen. When David sinned, it was Solomon who paid the price. When Solomon sinned, it was Jeroboam and Rehoboam who paid the price.

When the twins sinned, it was Kyou who paid the price. Being perfect means being sin-less, a process that Kyou went through his entire childhood to be the perfect human being that his parents expected of him. Free from the manifestations of the seven sins, by turning them into separate personalities and forcing these entities inside him sleep. But the world is vast and tempting, Kyou isn’t an exemption.

Some may claim to see the Alpha President being different than usual, one even claimed to be beaten up by the man. Who knows, maybe it’s a lie or maybe one of them woke up from their slumber.
